In Loving Memory of Margaret “Maggie” Fields
Margaret “Maggie” Fields, 72, of Meadowridge, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, surrounded by her family after a brief illness.
Born on March 3, 1953, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, Maggie spent her life caring for others — both as a registered nurse and as the heart of her family. Her steady hands and gentle voice brought comfort to countless patients over her 40-year nursing career, most of which she spent at St. Mary’s Regional Hospital.
Maggie married her high school sweetheart, Tom Fields, on June 12, 1976. Together, they built a life full of laughter, Sunday morning coffee on the porch, and family dinners that somehow always ended in stories and pie. She was a proud mother to three children — Emily (Brian) Jensen of Kearney, Ryan (Megan) Fields of O’Neill, and Laura (James) Cooper of Sioux City — and an adoring grandmother to seven grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
Outside of her work and family, Maggie found peace in her garden. Every spring, her backyard came alive with tulips, tomatoes, and the faint scent of lilacs drifting through the air. She had a gift for growing things — flowers, friendships, and faith — nurturing each with the same gentle care she gave to everyone in her life.
She had a way of making people feel welcome. Whether it was a neighbor stopping by for a cup of coffee or a patient in need of a kind word, Maggie’s compassion and sense of humor left an imprint on every heart she touched.
Her legacy is one of service, strength, and unwavering love. She believed in showing up — for her family, for her patients, for her community — and she did so every day, with grace.
Maggie is survived by her husband of 49 years, Tom Fields; her three children; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Nancy Hartwell and June Kramer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Irene Walker.
A celebration of life will be held at Meadowridge Community Church on Saturday, October 25, at 11 a.m., with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or to the St. Mary’s Hospital Nursing Scholarship Fund in her memory.
Maggie’s family takes comfort in knowing she has found rest — her hands forever still, her garden forever in bloom, and her love forever remembered.
